Shokz Open-Ear Headphones Guide: Meet OpenDots 2, OpenFit Air 2 and the Shokz Range
Running through a city. Riding through traffic. Training at the gym. Walking to work. Swimming laps.
There are plenty of moments when you want music in your ears without shutting out everything happening around you.
That simple idea has helped turn Shokz into one of the most recognisable names in open-ear audio.
Now the range is growing again.
With the arrival of the new Shokz OpenDots 2 and Shokz OpenFit Air 2, Shokz is expanding beyond its roots in bone conduction sports headphones and giving users more ways to experience open-ear audio.
But which Shokz headphones are right for you?
Here is our guide to some of the key models in the current Shokz range.

Why open-ear headphones?
Traditional headphones are generally designed around isolation. Put them on, block out the outside world and focus on the audio.
Shokz takes a different approach.
Open-ear headphones leave the ear canal open, allowing you to listen while remaining more aware of traffic, other runners, conversations and the environment around you.
That makes the technology particularly interesting for running, cycling and other outdoor activities, but its appeal increasingly extends beyond sport.
And that is exactly where the latest Shokz range gets interesting.

NEW: Shokz OpenDots 2
The new Shokz OpenDots 2 might be the clearest example yet of how far the Shokz range has expanded.
Instead of the familiar wraparound sports design, OpenDots 2 uses a compact clip-on construction that sits around the ear while leaving the ear canal completely open.
The result is a pair of open-ear earbuds designed as much for everyday life as for movement.
OpenDots 2 combines its lightweight clip-on design with upgraded Dolby Audio, Shokz Bassphere 2.0 technology and an IP57 water-resistance rating. Each earbud weighs just 6.4 grams.
Battery life reaches up to 10 hours from the earbuds themselves and up to 40 hours together with the charging case. A five-minute quick charge can provide up to two hours of playback, while the case supports both USB-C and Qi-certified wireless charging.
There is another clever detail too: the left and right earbuds are interchangeable.
For users who like the idea of open-ear listening but do not necessarily want a traditional sports headphone, OpenDots 2 represents a very different side of Shokz.

NEW: Shokz OpenFit Air 2
If OpenDots 2 represents the more lifestyle-oriented side of open-ear audio, the new Shokz OpenFit Air 2 sits naturally between everyday listening and an active lifestyle.
Each earbud weighs only 7.2 grams and uses a flexible ear-hook design engineered to stay securely around the ear without closing the ear canal.
Compared with the previous OpenFit Air, the new generation is lighter and more compact while also increasing battery life.
OpenFit Air 2 delivers up to eight hours of listening on a single charge and up to 36 hours with the charging case. A ten-minute quick charge provides up to three additional hours.
Shokz has also upgraded the audio system with its Bassphere driver and OpenBass 2.0 technology, while DirectPitch technology is used to direct sound towards the ear and reduce sound leakage.
Add IP55 sweat and water resistance, pressure-sensitive controls and Bluetooth 6.1, and OpenFit Air 2 becomes an interesting option for everything from commuting and work to gym sessions and everyday training.

Shokz OpenRun Pro 2: the flagship for runners
This is the Shokz model many endurance athletes will already recognise.
Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 remains one of the most important products in the range and is currently highlighted by Shokz Nordic as a best-selling model.
It is built around the classic Shokz sports format: a lightweight wraparound frame that keeps the headphones securely positioned while leaving the ears open.
The major difference is what is happening inside.
OpenRun Pro 2 uses Shokz DualPitch technology, combining a bone conduction driver for mids and highs with a separate air conduction driver dedicated to bass.
For runners, this combination is particularly interesting. You get the stable fit and environmental awareness that made bone conduction headphones popular for running, while the additional air conduction driver significantly expands what the headphones can deliver at the lower end of the sound spectrum.
Battery life reaches up to 12 hours, while a five-minute quick charge provides up to 2.5 hours of listening.
For running, cycling and endurance training, OpenRun Pro 2 remains a central part of the Shokz range.

Shokz OpenFit 2+: open-ear sound for training and everyday life
Not everyone wants a neckband.
That is where Shokz OpenFit 2+ comes in.
These true wireless open-ear earbuds use flexible ear hooks to keep each earbud securely positioned while leaving the ear canal open.
OpenFit 2+ is positioned towards users who want a fuller-featured open-ear earbud for both workouts and everyday listening. It combines Shokz DualBoost technology, OpenBass 2.0 and Dolby Audio, with up to 11 hours of listening from the earbuds and up to 48 hours together with the charging case.
It is a different proposition from OpenRun Pro 2.
Where OpenRun Pro 2 feels purpose-built around running and endurance sport, OpenFit 2+ bridges training, commuting, work and everyday listening.

Shokz OpenSwim Pro: open-ear headphones built for swimming
There is one environment where Bluetooth headphones run into a fundamental problem.
Underwater.
Shokz OpenSwim Pro solves that differently.
Alongside Bluetooth connectivity for use on land, OpenSwim Pro includes 32 GB of internal storage for music playback without a phone. That means swimmers can load music directly onto the headphones and listen during their sessions in the pool or open water.
The combination also makes OpenSwim Pro particularly interesting for triathletes who want one pair of headphones that can move between swimming and training on land.
For swimmers and triathletes, it occupies a very specific place within the Shokz family.

Which Shokz headphones should you choose?
The Shokz range is no longer built around one type of athlete or even one type of headphone.
If running and endurance training are the priority, OpenRun Pro 2 is the natural place to start.
If you want lightweight earbuds that work across training, commuting and everyday life, OpenFit Air 2 brings the open-ear concept into a compact ear-hook format.
For a more premium true wireless experience, OpenFit 2+ adds longer battery life and a more advanced audio package.
If you want something even smaller and more lifestyle-oriented, the new OpenDots 2 introduces Shokz’s clip-on approach with up to 40 hours of total battery life.
And if your training takes you into the water, OpenSwim Pro adds onboard music storage specifically for swimming.
Different designs.
Different sports.
Different ways of listening.
One idea connects them all: enjoying audio without completely disconnecting from the world around you.
